Footprint Clusters
How to enable footprint charts, what a column shows, cell modes and colors, settings, exchange and timeframe coverage, large trades and delta as a table.
Footprint clusters break each candle down by price level: how much was bought and sold at each price inside the bar. They show where the main trading happened, which side was ahead, and where one side dominated sharply.
Clusters are a chart type. Their data comes from the LootX cluster server, so coverage depends on the exchange and timeframe — see the tables below.
How to enable
Select the chart type
In the chart header, open the Chart type list and choose Clusters. The other options are Candles, Bars, and Line.
Zoom in
The grid appears when a candle is wider than the Show from (px per candle) threshold — 40 pixels by default. While candles are narrower, the chart draws regular candles and does not request clusters from the server.
Adjust the view
Right-click the chart → Clusters. This menu item is available only when the chart type is set to Clusters.
What a column shows
Each candle turns into a column of cells: one row is one price level. Cells span the full candle width; the candle body shrinks to a narrow strip, and the wick is not drawn through the grid.
- Below the column — the bar delta (buys minus sells), and turnover as well if there is room.
- POC — the level with the highest volume in the bar. Its numbers are highlighted with the POC color.
- Imbalance is calculated diagonally: buys at a level are compared with sells one tick below, sells with buys one tick above. A level is marked when one side is at least three times the other. If the opposite level is empty, there is no mark.
- Imbalance stack — three or more marked levels in a row. It is drawn as a stripe along the column edge.
A bar for which the server has no data remains a regular candle.
Cell appearance
Two independent choices in the Clusters menu define the look: what is written in the cell and how it is colored.
| Cell content | What you see |
|---|---|
| Bid × Ask — sells and buys | Two numbers: sell volume and buy volume at the level. Enabled by default |
| Delta — buys minus sells | A single signed number |
| Volume — sum of both sides | Total volume at the level |
| No numbers — fill only | Color only, no numbers |
| Coloring | What you see | How imbalance is marked |
|---|---|---|
| Fill — whole cell, brightness by volume | The cell is fully filled; the higher the volume, the brighter | By fill color |
| Bars — sells to the left, buys to the right | Two volume strips for each side. Enabled by default | By bar color |
| By delta — color of the dominant side | The cell is colored by the side with more volume at that level | By outline |
| Profile — horizontal bars from the edge | Volume profile inside the column. The POC strip uses the POC color when the column has at least four rows | — |
The Classic — fill and volume item enables both choices at once: Fill coloring and Volume content.
Brightness and fill
Cell brightness is calculated against the “full scale” — the volume at which a cell burns at full strength. By default the scale is automatic: the most voluminous row on screen is taken as full.
To set the scale manually, hold J and scroll the wheel over the chart. Scrolling up increases the scale, and cells dim. The key can be reassigned — the action is called “Full-scale volume (hold + wheel)”, see Hotkeys.
While the scale is automatic, the Clusters menu shows an inactive hint “Fill: auto (J + wheel)”. After manual adjustment, it is replaced by “Fill: … → auto” with the current value — clicking it restores automatic mode.
Brightness limits are set in the settings: Brightness: cold cell (%) — 7 by default, Brightness: hot cell (%) — 80.
When zoomed out
When a candle is below the “Show from” threshold, there is no grid. When zoomed out far, candles are drawn with volume-based transparency: the higher the bar volume, the denser the color. Volume comes from the candle itself, so this view works even where clusters are unavailable and does not load the server.
Three menu items control it: Candle transparency by volume (when zoomed out) (enabled by default), Volume candles below (px, 0 — auto), and Empty candle transparency (%) (15 by default).
Settings
Everything in the Clusters menu is duplicated in Settings → Chart, on the Clusters card. The Cluster colors… menu item leads there as well. Settings are shared across all charts.
| Setting | Values |
|---|---|
| Show from (px per candle) | 5–140, default 40 |
| Row height (px) | 4–40, default 10 |
| Number font size (0 — auto) | 0 or 8–20 |
| Fill (0 = auto) | Full scale as a number, 0 — automatic |
| Brightness: cold / hot cell (%) | 7 and 80 |
| Column outline, Row separators | Enabled by default |
| Cell color, Buys color, Sells color, Numbers color, POC color | Only in the settings window |
Where clusters are available
| Exchange | Spot | Futures |
|---|---|---|
| Binance, Bybit, OKX, Bitget, Gate | yes | yes |
| MEXC, KuCoin, BingX, Aster | yes | yes |
| Hyperliquid | no | yes |
| Binance Alpha, Upbit | no | — |
The server may temporarily disable a venue on its side — then clusters stop arriving for it until it is restored.
| Chart timeframe | Clusters |
|---|---|
| 1s, 3s, 5s, 15s | no |
| 30s, 1m, 3m, 5m, 15m, 30m | yes |
| 1H, 2H, 4H, 1D | yes |
| 1W | no |
The server stores clusters in 30-second, 1, 5, 15 and 30-minute, 1-hour, 4-hour, and 1-day windows. An intermediate timeframe is assembled from the largest suitable window: 3m from minute windows, 2H from hourly windows.
Last column
If the order book for the same coin on the same exchange and market is open, the right column updates almost instantly — from that order book’s trade stream. Without an open order book, it updates only by polling the server, noticeably less often.
Large trades and delta as a table
Both indicators are added with the ƒ button in the chart header, and their coverage is the same as for clusters.
Large trades
The Large trades indicator places markers for individual large prints on the chart. Access is still granted manually by the team: the lock and the card say “Available in test mode”, and a subscription does not unlock it.
- Minimum volume (0 — auto by coin): — in auto mode, the threshold is derived from the coin’s largest trades. While there is no sample yet, the threshold is taken from the auto scale of the open order book for this coin (half of it), and without an order book — $1,000,000 for BTC, ETH and SOL and $20,000 for the rest.
- Merge trades: — combines prints within Merge window (ms): into one marker. Its price is set by Merged marker price: — volume-weighted average, first or last print.
- Price location: — keeps only trades at the high, at the low, in the candle body, or in the wicks.
- Auto filter: and Auto filter strength: — Weak, Medium, Strong, or “By share of largest” (default — 0.2% of the largest in a sample of 10,000 trades).
- Marker style: — ellipse, triangle, rectangle, diamond, or price only.
Settings are remembered separately for each coin. When zoomed out far, the indicator legend says “zoom in”.
Delta as a table
The Delta and Cumulative delta indicators can be shown as a table: in the indicator settings, Render type: → Table. Rows are enabled individually — “Delta”, “Max delta”, “Min delta”, “Volume”, and for cumulative also “Accumulated”. Row names in scale: labels the rows. Delta indicators may require a plan — the lock then says “Available in Pro”.
Limitations
- No clusters on 1s–15s and 1W timeframes.
- No value area and no average trade size per level.
- No maximum and minimum bar delta in the column — these rows are available in the table view of the Delta indicator.
- The imbalance threshold is fixed — threefold dominance, with no setting for it.
- While the cluster grid is visible, the order book heatmap under the candles is hidden.
If clusters do not load on any coin, check the connection to LootX servers: Settings → Cloud → Connection diagnostics. More details on the Error messages page.
